Methodology

By trusting in my services, you can expect utmost confidentiality, reliability and professionalism.

The mother-tongue principle

I only translate into my mother tongue: English. This ensures that my translations are eloquent and easy to read, by drawing on a wealth of linguistic experience and a natural instinct for correct and clear usage. Moreover, translating towards one's mother tongue is simply quicker and easier: that means I can offer you higher-quality content at a more competitive price. If you're looking to translate something into a language other than English, I'd be happy to put you in contact with a trusted member of my network of native speakers.

Translation strategy

Translation is not merely a linguistic process, but also a cultural and functional operation. It follows that a translator must be equipped not only with good terminology, style and domain knowledge, but also an effective method for tackling a text's cultural and functional aspects. One such methodology is the so-called skopos theory, deriving from the Greek for "aim". This theory presupposes that words are not isolated, but interconnected in a web of meaning and context, all encapsulated in the text's purpose and the conventions of the genre. This purpose is the driving force of the text and should serve as a compass to navigate through challenging translation decisions, making adjustments to accommodate the target culture and its mindset. It is my task, therefore, not only to enable your readers to understand the text, but also to convey the text's original aims.
